Industrial fisheries - In March 2011 The Black Fish announced it would switch some of its focus to take action against destructive and illegal fishing operations in Europe. A fundraising appeal was launched for a rigid inflatable boat, to be used for direct action and in February 2011 work started on 'Bluefin Bonanza', a book exposing the lucrative trade in the highly endangered bluefin tuna. In September 2011 the Belgian organisation How To Save The Bluefin merged with The Black Fish to build a stronger alliance in the fight against bluefin tuna overfishing.

Fisheries investigation - In September 2011 The Black Fish opened a new office in Malmö, Sweden, in addition to its location in Amsterdam. The office has been donated by another organisation and will be used for a new investigative project, focused on the effects of industrial fishing around Europe. Selma Möller, one of the people who initiated the project; "It is important that we start investigating the real details of the fishing operations around Europe. Even right here in Scandinavia there are questions to be answered.
