The Black Fish has secured the necessary funding for a second rigid inflatable boat, to be used during its upcoming campaigns in 2012. The Zeno 1325, The Black Fish's first boat, which was acquired last year, will undergo an overhaul this winter.

The Black Fish is preparing for investigative work and direct action in 2012 to take on some of the issues surrounding industrial and damaging fishing operations within Europe. "These two small boats are an important first step to ensure we can get offshore, where some of these practices actually take place. With increasing support, there is more and more we can do", commented Wietse van der Werf, the organisation's co-founder.

The Black Fish gained international support last year when it freed a number of dolphins during the annual dolphin drive hunt in Taiji, Japan. Since then the organisation has increased its campaigns, launching a coalition with other organisations for the release of a captive killer whale, starting an investigation into industrial fishing around Scandinavia, joining forces with the Belgian organisation How To Save The Bluefin to get attention for the situation surrounding the endangered bluefin tuna and by purchasing its first boat, the Zeno 1325, in preparation for its offshore campaigns.

In future The Black Fish plans to have a more permanent presence within European waters. With this area of the world now belonging to one of the most polluted and overfished on the planet, it is in everyone's interest that we take appropriate action to safeguard its natural beauty.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our members and donors for their continued support, trust and helping hands to ensure we can do our job, being a voice for the ocean life. In particular we wish to thank the anonymous donor that made the generous donation which ensures we can get a second boat in action.
