The course is completely free for participants as all transport, accommodation and food costs are covered. You must be resident anywhere in the EU though UK nationals are excluded due to funding conditions. Our target group is people on low incomes, but anyone can apply.
The workshop will have a daily theme, with each theme being introduced by an expert who will go through some basic concepts and then show learners some practical techniques. At least half of each day will involve hands-on practice.
The themes to be covered include:
- Hulls - design, manufacture and maintenance
- Engines and fuel systems
- Sail care and repair
- Electrical systems, including wind, solar and tidal generators
- Storing and growing food on board a boat
- Low-cost navigational equipment, do-it-yourself projects to set up budget navigational systems
- Safety overview
The workshop language is English.
We expect participants to learn the basics of boat maintenance; gain increased confidence to carry out basic boat maintenance tasks; to develop new skills, knowledge and experiences; everyone will make contacts beyond their resident country which can be pursued in the future; an opportunity to improve European language skills; be introduced to eco-friendly boat maintenance and the marine impacts of maintaining a boat. You can apply for the workshop via the Sail Boat Project website
Deadline for applications is 15th December 2011.
