Our friends at the UK based Sail Boat Project (SBP) are organising a 5-day basic maritime training in April 2011, which will be very useful for people interested in getting involved in ocean conservation.
Get your skills for sea!
The five day training will include: practical sessions on small boat handling (kayaks and dinghies), coastal food foraging, practical marine biology, wild swimming, study trip to Falmouth National Maritime Museum and traditional wooden boat builder, practice with traditional boat building techniques and tools, basic sea survival for small craft, understanding nautical charts, tides and basic navigation.
The 'Skills to Sea' workshop takes place in Cornwall, south west England and runs from 1-8 April 2011. SBP offers travel costs, accommodation, food and the workshops. The training is funded through the EU under a project called Grundtvig. It is only eligable for EU nationals (excluding UK nationals and anyone resident in the UK). If you are interested, please get in touch with SBP soon at sailboatproject@post.com as there are only limited places!
The Sail Boat Project is a workers’ co-operative aimed at offing people access to the nearest UK wilderness: the sea and providing UK and international sail transport for individuals and groups involved in positive social change activities. It also supports the development of a whole range of skills among people involved in the project, such as sailing, group work, engine maintenance and navigation.
